Born March 17, 1955, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Robert A. and Dolores M. (Markle) Smith. Art was the loving husband of Lori K. (Clark) Smith with whom he shared 45 years of marriage.
Art graduated from Hanover High School as a member of the class of 1973. As a former player, he remained a dedicated Nighthawk Football fan throughout his life.
He had a career in construction spanning 50 years. He started his career as a young man working for his father in the home building business before starting his own home construction business. He also worked for Hostetter Construction and briefly at Schmuck Lumber Co. He spent the remainder of his career working for Conewago Contractors as a property manager before retiring.
Art gave back to his community by serving as President on the Hanover Public School District Board of Directors where he was instrumental in the renovation of Sheppard & Myers Athletic Field, serving in the Student Mentoring Program, and serving on the Hanover Borough Rec Board and the Zoning Appeals Board. Art was also a member of the McSherrystown Home Association.
Art was an avid race fan, especially of his younger brother Neil, and towed cars at Lincoln Speedway on race nights for over 20 years.
Art was a member of the National Street Rod Association. He enjoyed golfing, model railroading, spending time at his workshop, and especially spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his loving wife Lori, Art is survived by one daughter, Holly K. Liska and husband Benjamin; two brothers, Terry R. Smith and wife Sara and Neil A. Smith and Cathy Miller; his nieces and nephews, Hanna Grau, Jacob Smith, Leah Green, and Olivia Smith. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Priscilla Sible and husband Thomas, and their children Jason Sible and Jennifer Sible.
A service to celebrate and remember Art's life will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, February 25, 2022, with Pastor Jeff Harner officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
