Cheryl Lynn Lewis, 63 of Avon, IN passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 13th at 12:30am. Cheryl was born in Mt. Vernon, IL on August 8, 1958 to Sam and June Lewis of Mt. Vernon, IL. Both preceded her in death. Cheryl was the loving mother of three remarkable young women, Maddie Lewis of Avon, IN, Chloe McGuire (Justin Beck) of Westfield, IN, and Lilly McGuire (Connor Castaldi) of Carmel, IN. She had one grandson, Jaxson Dowdy, the apple of her eye! Cheryl is survived by three siblings, Sammie (Terri) Lewis of Bloomington, IL, Denise (Pat) Brady of Smithton, IL and Danny Lewis of Brownsburg, IN. She has several nieces and one nephew.

Cheryl's career passion was nursing. She was a caring and compassionate nurse. She served many roles in her nursing career including LPN, RN, and Operating Room Nurse. She had surgical specialties in heart, orthopedics, and trauma.

Cheryl's daughters and siblings remember her for her funny personality! Everyone loved her sense of humor…she had a million great one-liners. She always had an open heart and could strike up a conversation with anyone, especially people at the grocery store (just like Papa). She was a friend-maker, always looking for the best in everyone. Known to her daughters as "Momma", Cheryl delighted in taking good care of them by cleaning, planning and cooking. A great cook and master chef, she fed the souls and bellies of many! The kitchen was a source of pleasure for Cheryl, her girls and grandson. They cooked, danced, sang, and sometimes cried in the kitchen. It was the heart of her home. Cheryl was beloved by her daughters' friends as well. All were welcomed in her home and welcomed to join the fun. She was a mom to many of them and they called her "Momma" too!

Jaxson called her "Mawmaw". She played with him, helped him with his spelling words, cuddled with him and best of all, said how proud she was of him. He was truly her JOY!

Cheryl was admired for her fighting spirit that allowed her to persevere in challenging circumstances. A woman of great strength, courage, and full of love for her family, she will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00pm on Monday, February 21, 2022 at the Legacy Funeral Home in Lawrence, IN, 5215 N. Shadeland Avenue. A service will be held from 3:00 – 4:00.
