Sheryl L. Barreto, 62, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007.
Sheryl Lorraine Barreto was born May 22, 1945, to Clarice L and Michael Lee McKay at the Independence Sanitarium Hospital in Independence, Mo. Sheryl was a homemaker, a bookkeeper, an office manager, and co-manager in the family jewelry business. Sheryl exhibited extraordinary faith throughout her life and the Holy Spirit guided her through many difficult times. She had a great love for all of God's creatures, providing a home to many and a safe haven to any who found her doorstep.
She was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer in October 2006 and shortly thereafter moved in with her son, Vince and his family in Blue Springs, Mo. She bravely battled the disease for over a year, and took her place next to God on Dec. 20, 2007. She will remain in our hearts and loved forever. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sergio Barreto.
She is survived by her three children, Vincent Paul Barreto, Anthony Carrillo Barreto and Gina Maria Barreto.
She took much joy in her eight grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She forged a very special relationship with her "adopted" sister Darlene. She had countless good friends and co-workers.
The funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at East Alton Church located on the corner of 23rd Street and R.D. Mize Road in Independence. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, Dec. 27, at Barreto Family Funeral Home 614A Brookside, Independence, Mo
