Son of Robert Preston and Rose Marie White Byrd, husband of Sandra Harrelson.

MULLINS - Reverend Robert Edward Byrd, affectionately known to many as "Bobby," 70, husband of Sandra Harrelson Byrd of Marion, gained his Heavenly body during the early morning hours of Sunday, February 20, 2022, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, with his loving family by his side after an extended illness.

Rev. Bobby was born in Mullins, South Carolina on February 22, 1951, a son to the late Robert Preston Byrd and the late Rose Marie White Byrd. Other than being a faithful servant to his Lord, Rev. Bobby was a loving husband, caring father, and grandfather, and overall, a genuine, warmhearted friend to many he met. Rev. Byrd was a graduate of Mullins High School Class of 1969. He went on to graduate from Charleston Southern University, earned his Master of Divinity from Andersonville Seminary, and was currently working on his Doctorate. Rev. Byrd did what he loved for close to 50 plus years, he pastored.

Rev. Bobby touched many a soul and heard countless prayers and comforted hundreds if not thousands over his career. He was currently pastoring Brownsville Baptist Church in Blenheim, South Carolina until he had to go on medical retirement. Rev. Byrd was also thoroughly active as Director of Mission on the Marion County and South Carolina Baptist Associations. Rev. Byrd was a United States Army veteran having served his country when he was called upon. Rev. Bobby enjoyed and loved spending time with his family and friends, chances to catch up, share a joke, or speak kindly to someone were at the top of the list for Bobby, and if you had a pot of coffee handy, he'd be glad to help you drink it, for he was an avid coffee drinker according to his family.

Surviving Rev. Byrd in addition to his wife of the home, Sandra Harrelson Byrd, is a daughter, Shana G. Bennetts (Kevin) of Marion; a brother, Frank Byrd of Mullins; a sister, Eva Preacher (Johnny) of Mullins; and 2 grandchildren.

Rev, Byrd was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Byrd.

A funeral service for Rev. Byrd will be held Tuesday afternoon, February 22 at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Reedy Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen D. Bailey and Rev. John Rogers officiating. Rev. Byrd will be laid to rest in Red Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Eric Caudill officiating the graveside, with presentation of the flag and Taps.
