Charles William May, 86, of Alpena passed away Friday, February 18, 2022 at his home with his family at his side.
Charles was born in Alpena on April 27, 1935, to the late Melvin and Dorothy (Johnson) May and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On November 27, 1957, he married Marvis Spigelmyre. Charlie owned and operated Sunrise Excavating, enjoyed playing in bands and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Marvis; 3 sons, Greg (Donna) May, Chuck (Krys) May, Frank (Daniell) May; son-n-law, Ron McDonald; 6 grandchildren, Ashley McConnell, Brandon McConnell, Mitchel (Ashley) May, Danielle May, Jared (Morgan) May, Cassidy (Preston) May; 9 great grandchildren, Arianna & Camron McConnell, Hayden, Harper & Harlow McConnell, Jase & Jeslyn May, Everleigh Blues; sister, Barbara Bates; sisters-in-law, Gladys Spigelmyre, Cathy Spigelmyre, Janet Spigelmyre, Susan Partyka, Peggy Spigelmyre; many nieces and nephews.

Mr. May was preceded in death by a daughter, Lourrie McDonald; granddaughter, Amber Jo May; grandparents, Charles and Lillian Johnson; infant brother, Frank May; infant sister, Audrey Dekett; brother, Horrace "June" Bramhill; sister-in-law, Joyce Spigelmyre; brothers-in-law, Wesley Spigelmyre, Donald Spigelmyre, Harold Spigelmyre, Michael Spigelmyre and Harold Bates.



Memorial visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 7 p.m. followed by military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496.
