Hoffman - Joseph C. was New York City's First Deputy Police Commissioner in the first administration of Mayor Edward Koch. He had served in all ranks from patrolman to deputy chief during a 29-year career with the New York City Police Department. Mayor Koch subsequently asked him to serve as President of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, a career change that would take him through senior executive positions with St. Vincent's Medical Center of New York, W.R. Grace & Co., and Bay State Health Care in Massachusetts. He lives in East Williston on Long Island with his wife, Kitty. They have two sons, two daughters-in-law, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He has B.Sc. and M.P.A. degrees from John Jay College, City University of New York, and attended Columbia University's Executive M.B.A. Program. He was an adjunct professor at Adelphi University. He is also the author of two novels, "The Last Mayor" and "Acts and Omissions." Visitation Monday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Weigand Bros Funeral Home, 49 Hillside Ave., Williston Park, NY. Funeral Mass Tuesday, 10 am St. Aidan's Church, Williston Park, NY. Entombment will follow at Washington Memorial Park, Coram.
