Helen Poulis Robinson
OCTOBER 3, 1932 – FEBRUARY 16, 2022

IN THE CARE OF
Ridout's Valley Chapel
Helen Poulis Robinson, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, passed away February 16, 2022, after a brief illness. She was 89 and lived a life full of love and devotion to her family and others.
Helen was the only child of Christopher Poulis, who immigrated to the U.S. from Greece and died at the age of 94, and Cecelia Angeli Poulis, who immigrated to the U.S. from Belgium and died at the age of 94. Her parents were married for 72 years.

Helen was born Oct. 3, 1932, in Manchester, New Hampshire.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Leonard H. Robinson, her husband of 41 years and one of the pioneers of the University of Alabama at Birmingham medical complex. They met while Helen was finishing her nursing training in Boston and married just two months later, then moved to Alabama where they built and raised their family.

Helen was a registered nurse, working both in surgical and ambulatory care settings.

She was a lifetime volunteer, including serving with the UAB Women's Medical Auxiliary where she spent many Mondays hosting families in the Day of Surgery Waiting Room. She also served with the Altar Guild and Flower Guild at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, where she was a founding parishioner and fondly known to sit on the same pew, in the same spot, for as long as she was able to attend Mass.

We have no doubt that when she got to Heaven, she heard the words we all long to hear: Well done, good and faithful servant.

Helen was a wiz at online bridge despite her initial reluctance to learn how to use a computer, a master at completing crossword puzzles and a stickler for etiquette, especially when it came to thank-you notes.

She was spunky, stubborn and, most of all, fiercely loyal to her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her immeasurable joy and pride.

Helen is survived by her four children, Jan Baldwin (Barry), Dr. Chris Robinson (Lisa), Carol Robinson, Martha Tankersley (Craig); seven grandchildren Christopher Robinson (Lauren), Daniel Tankersley (Abi), Maci Norwood (Wade), Jeffrey Robinson, Alex Tankersley, Beth Ann Robinson, Joe Tankersley; two great grandchildren Christopher Robinson and Scotty Norwood with a third baby boy on the way.

We are eternally grateful for the love and care received by KJ's Elderly Care, LLC and Affinity Hospice.

Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover with visitation at 10 a.m.
