Widely - Known Restaurant Man Had Been
in Business Here for 34 Years.
A. M. Verner Sr., 69, widely known proprietor of "Atlanta's Oldest Restaurant" on Marietta street, died in a private hospital Monday night after an illness of a week.
Mr. Verner came to Atlanta in 1888 from Gwinnett county, where he was born on July 26, 1864. He began in the restaurant business in 1900 with an establishment on Broad street, and soon was known as an expert in barbecue. In the 34 years of his career he traveled to many cities to prepare barbecues for assemblies of as many as 10,000 persons. He moved to Marietta street several years ago.
He was a member of the Central Congregational church and of the W. D. Luckie lodge of Masons. His residence was at 3215 Peachtree road. Surviving Mr. Verner are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Joseph A. Nichols, of Atlanta; a son, Marshall Verner, former Oglethorpe football star, who was associated with him in business, and two sisters, Mrs. George Moore, of Pitts, Ga., and Miss Zera Verner, of Atlanta. H. M. Patterson & Son will announce funeral arrangements.

Verner Jr., Mrs. George Moore, Pitts, Ga., and Miss Zera Verner. are invited to attend the funeral of Mr. A. M. Verner Sr., this (Wednesday) morning, March 28. 1934. at 11 o'clock at Spring Hill. Dr. D. Witherspoon Dodge will officiate. Interment. West View cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers and please meet at Spring Hill at 10:4o o'clock: Dr. Frank L. Eskridge, Dr. Arthur H. Van Dyke. Dr. George Brown. Dr. M. T. Salter. Mr. W. M. Francis and Mr. A. P. Francis. H. M. Patterson & Son.
