Shelby Brock, 74 years of age, of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, departed this life on Friday, December 6th, 2013 at his residence.

Shelby was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky on April 6th, 1939, son of the late John Henry and Shirley Shelton Brock. He retired as a truck driver after 33 years with The American Freight System, and was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of New Heart Baptist Church, where he sang solos and performed with The Southern Gospel Quartet and was a former Sunday school teacher whom helped build New Heart Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid vegetable gardener.

Shelby was survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lee-Etta Blevins Brock, whom he married on August 13th, 1960 in Lincoln County, Kentucky; four sons, Leslie Shawn (and Rebekah) Brock and Shelby Lee (and Marianne) Brock, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jason Kyle Brock of Austin, Texas, and Morgan Hodge of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; four daughters, Constance Elaine (and Kenneth) Quigley of Cincinnati, Ohio, Shelley Rae (and William) Phelps of Somerset, Kentucky, Melanie Joy (and Jeff) Whitney of Sparks, Nevada, and Madison Hodge of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Morris Wayne (and Beth) Brock of Greensboro, North Carolina and Lonnie Dale (and Diana) Brock of Mt. Orab, Ohio; one sister, Brenda Lilly of West Chester, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren, Nicholas and Jonathan Brock, Lauribeth, Aaron, Hannah and Sarah Quigley, Caleb Freeman, Savannah Phelps, C.J. Bray, Maverick Hodge, Noah and Clara Brock, Sommer and Klinton Atchley; two great grandchildren, Karmin Jade and Jasmine Freeman; a special friend and brother-in-law, Bro. Melvin and Mary Sisson of Somerset, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Shirley Brock; two brothers, Silas Brock and Bobby Ray Brock; and one sister, Dorothy Brown.

Visitations were held on Monday, December 9th, 2013 after 5:00 p.m. at the Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 10th, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Lawson, Bro. Gary Whitaker, and Bro. Melvin Sisson officiating.

Burial followed in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Pulaski County, Kentucky.
