Dorothy's Life Journey
Dorothy Louise Harris was born on April 4, 1930, in Brownsville, Tennessee, to the proud parents of Birdena Smoots and John Henry. Dorothy had reached the wonderful age of 91 as she lived in Houston, Texas and transitioned on February 18, 2022, to be with her Lord.
Dorothy lived in Decatur, Illinois all her life. She was a loyal and dedicated member at the Church of the Living God, C.W.F.F in Decatur, Illinois. She served in the church as an usher, host and was on call when services were needed by the minister and congregation. Dorothy loved, trusted and truly believed in God. Furthermore, Dorothy worked as a Supervisor at Lincoln State Developmental Center while providing transportation service for workers in Decatur, Illinois. She retired from the facility after 30 years. Plus, Dorothy was a loving and faithful foster parent for the Department of Children & Family Services. In addition, she was a cheerful giver of wisdom, encouragement and gave love to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, friends, and relatives.
Dorothy departed this life on Friday, February 18, 2022. Her life & sweet memories will be cherish by her family, friends and relatives. She leaves behind her daughters; Gloria Harris - Springfield, Ill, Julie Bell-Graham -Houston, Tx, Sherry L. Harris -Hart- Springfield, Ill, Janice Harris-Ford- St. Louis, Mo, Reva Harris- Houston, Tx, Kimberly Harris- Houston, Tx, Lisa Harris-Springfield, Ill. and her loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Birdena Smoots and John Henry, and a son Roosevelt Harris Jr., daughter Birdena Harris and two sisters Margaret A. Smith, Flora Campbell-Whitfield, brother Joseph Flemmings.
