Mary P O'Brien, 87, passed away February 16, 2022 after a long illness.

She is survived by her brothers, James O'Brien and his wife Barbara, and William O'Brien and his wife, Katherine.

She is the daughter of the late John J. O'Brien and Mary (Purce) O'Brien and sister of the late Michael O'Brien.

Mary is also survived by her nieces, Mary O'Brien, Laura Lee Norberg, Julia O'Brien, and nephews, John O'Brien and wife Colleen, Dennis O'Brien and wife Lori, Joseph O'Brien, and the late Terence O'Brien and wife Paige, William Norberg Jr., and Robert D. Norberg and wife Robin as well as many great nieces and nephews.

She attended and graduated from North Providence Public Schools and was a graduate from Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. From there, she went on to work at Rhode Island Hospital on the 5B surgical unit and later became the charge nurse for many years.

Prior to retirement, Mary worked for the late Dr. William P. Corvese in Providence. She also spent many years as alumni correspondence secretary for Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing and served on the Lucy C. Ayers Foundation Committee. Mary always enjoyed the company and camaraderie of her Rhode Island Hospital classmates during luncheons and annual Cape Cod gatherings. In 1994 Mary retired to care for several family members. Mary enjoyed sunning and wading in the calm waters of Sand Hill Cove and the company of her dear friends, Clara, Jane, and Nancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday. February 24, 2022 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Point Judith Rd, Narragansett, RI. Burial followed in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale.
