Richard Wayne Hargett, 77, of Sparks passed away Monday, September 6, 2021, at Tift Regional Medical Center. There will be a private, family funeral service held for Mr. Hargett at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Jimmy Parker and Greg Sheppard will be officiating. A eulogy of memories will be given by Courtney Howell. Mr. Hargett was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery following the service.

Chad Brooks, Courtney Howell, Chad Alexander, Chuck Powell, Bill Daughtrey, Will Daughtrey, Ryan Lindsey and Luke Alexander will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Howard McMahan, Freddie Walker, Randall Gay, David Fausett, Charlie Merwin and Todd Stone.

Born May 29, 1944, in Ocilla, Mr. Hargett was the son of the late Ralph Luke Hargett, Sr. and Zelma Sirmans Hargett. He was also preceded in death by one brother, R. L. "Sonny" Hargett, Jr. and a nephew, Gilbert Wayne Davis. He graduated from Tifton High School in 1962 and he was a 1967 graduate of the University of Georgia. He was a huge Georgia Bulldogs fan. Before retiring, he was the owner of Hargett Realty and he currently served as Chairman of the Cook County Board of Tax Assessors. He loved to fish, hunt, grow roses and spend time with his family. He was a veteran of the United States Army and attended the Tifton Primitive Baptist Church.

Mr. Hargett is survived by his wife, Jere Anna Sumner Hargett of Sparks; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Ann Hargett, Rosemary (Rodney) Alexander, Nelda (Charles) Powell, all of Tifton, Janice (Larry) Dees of Ty Ty and Clarice (Tobie) Sumler of Tifton; three sisters-in-law, Gail Hargett of Sumner, Jan (Ken) Saunders of Hahira and Marthi (Pete) Sumner of Bluffton, South Carolina; his brother-in-law and his wife, Bill and Carol Ann Lindsey of Macon; and his beloved German Shepherds, Mosby, Jeb and Stonewall.
