He was born July 28, 1986, in Springville, NY, a son of John D. Johnson and Jo-Anne Ottoson.
He attended Maple Grove High School and Edinboro University.
Inspired by his instructor, mentor, and friend, Kevin Johnson, John-Henry was a gifted artist. His talents were both trained and innate, working in metalworking, drawing, sculpture and most recently in photography and pottery. His college self-portrait, above, partially evidences his ability. His artistic talents expanded into his insightful and innovative mechanical abilities, as he discerned situations and created solutions. He was a hard worker and made an impact on those with whom he worked.
JH loved being out in nature, the sense of freedom outdoors, the green expanse around him, enjoying long walks particularly at Long Point with Sid. He enjoyed travels throughout the USA, St. Martin, Paris, and Sweden meeting his relatives from where his grandparents had emigrated.
A very intelligent lifelong learner, he was a Jeopardy aficionado with his family, and excelled in categories such as cinema, history, and obscure facts.
He was a proud Eagle Scout and a proud Maple Grove member of the Southwestern-Maple Grove Varsity hockey team, also playing many years with the Lakers.
He is loved and missed by all, his surviving parents of Bemus Point, a brother Joshua Johnson of Washington, DC; his aunt and uncle, Sharon and Tom Davies, cousins, Jason, Colin, and Jeffery all of Houston, Texas, adopted family members Eivor Gustafson, Sonya (Jim) Gustafson, Scott (Linda Pierce) Gustafson, TJ and Kevin Gustafson, his beloved dog Siddhartha, and many friends who spanned generations.
He was preceded to heaven by grandparents Henry and Greta Ottoson, George and Bernice Johnson and Ted Gustafson.
No longer by our side, forever in our hearts. A celebration of life will be held at a date close to his birthdate in July.
