Rosemary Josephine Long, 84, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at her residence.

She was born on March 18, 1937, in Jefferson City, the daughter of the late Elmer Matthew and Rose Beatrice (nee Mertens) Stockman, Sr.

She was married on June 16, 1956, in Jefferson City to Virgil Nay Long, who preceded her in death on March 5, 2006.

"Miss Rosemary" owned and directed the Growing Gardens for Little Bloomers Day Care for thirty years before retiring and transferring ownership to her daughter-in-law and son. She had a strong work ethic and manned her other business, Flowers Etc. Shop during much of this time, also. In earlier years, she worked for Cheesebrough Ponds for fifteen years.

She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church. She decorated the church for the holidays for many years before her health slowed her down.

Raising six children and operating a daycare made her a really fun grandmother and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored her. She loved flowers and gardening, bingo, reading, and doing puzzles. Surprisingly, she also loved watching horror movies, especially with her grandkids.

Survivors include six children, Susan (Don Jones) Long, Jefferson City; Kathleen Carter, Columbia; Lora (John) Lodderhose, Florida; Kenneth M. Long, Jefferson City; Robert (Claudene) Long, Eldon; and Amy Long, Hartsburg; sixteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ann (Ron) Schenk, Arizona; Donna Straub, Jefferson City; and Carol (Harold Downing) Stockman, Jefferson City and two sisters-in-law, Betty Stockman, Jefferson City and Pat Stockman, Jefferson City. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who love her and will miss her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Long; a granddaughter, Piper White; a brother-in-law, Fred Straub; brothers, Harold Stockman, Leonard Stockman, Elmer Stockman, Jr., Earl Stockman, and Paul Stockman; and a sister, Lydia Cremer and sisters-in-law, Dixie Stockman and Sue Stockman and brother-in-law, George Cremer.
