Peter J. Smith, 74, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Wednesday. Peter retired from Niagara Mohawk after 34 years and then worked for TRC Companies, Inc. Most recently, he enjoyed working at his son's auto shop, KLS Auto & Cycle Care. Mr. Smith served in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. Peter loved golf and was involved in many golf leagues. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. An avid NY Giants fan, Pete and his daughter enjoyed watching the games together. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Beverly Smith. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Lucille (Vespa) Smith; daughter, Kimberly Smith Ford (Michael Ford); son, Keith (Jasmine) Smith; grandchildren, Angelo and Cecilia; step grandson, Anthony; brothers, Richard (Julianne) Smith and Steve (Roseanne) Simaneau; sisters, Julia (Rick) Piquet and Karen (Randy) Kreis; best friend, Andy (Donna) Marshall; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 21st from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at FARONE & SON, Inc. Funeral Home, 1500 Park Street, Syracuse. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 22nd at 9 a.m. at the funeral home and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave, Syracuse. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Please consider, in Pete's memory, a contribution to his grandchildren's college fund. Checks may be made payable to Lucille Smith.
