Irma married the late John Wesley Phillips in 1954, then shortly after moved to Chicago where she worked as a baker for Davidson Bakery until the close of business. Irma worked for the Chicago Public School System which she then retired from in the early 1990's. Irma accepted Christ at an early age and became a member at Evangelic Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of pastor Fred Weathers. She had a strong passion for baking which everyone loved, she also enjoyed bike riding and tennis. In 1992 Irma moved to Memphis, TN, where she would call home. Irma joined Mt Carmel COGIC, under the leadership of the late Administrative Assistant Charles Patton and Pastor Wille Vann. She was a faithful member of the church and served on the motherboard.
Irma was proceeded in death by her daughter, Ruth Shelby Phillips "Bam", siblings Elbert Young Jr, Willie Henry Young, Rosie Nevills, Perry Young, Delois Young and Robert Earl Young SR, Velma Young).
Irma leaves to cherish her two daughters, Denise Phillips-West (Michael West) of Chicago, IL, Doreen Phillips of Fort Worth, TX and son Johnny Muhammad of Flint, MI. Her siblings Samuel Young(Leola Young), Gracie Vann(Pastor Willie Vann), Benjamin Young(Virginia Young), Calvin Lacy(Latonya Lacy). Her grandchildren Delvin Phillips, Damita Jones(Edward Jones), Jonathon Loyd, Tajma Phillips, Jenny Loyd, Jennifer Loyd, Marcus West(Kaamilya West), Danesha West, Devina West, Qadriyah Muhammad, Taim Allah Muhammad, Dhakirah Muhammad. Her great grandchildren Delisha Jackson, Markeese Wise, Emmanuel Byron Jr, George Brown Jr, Darren "DJ" Smith Jr, Da'Jon Smith, Michael Banks Jr, Dayla Smith, Marcus West Jr, Da'Kota Loyd, Essence West, Adam Siaka, Mikynzie Miller and her great great grandchild De'karion Jackson, De'kri Jackson, Da'Money Jackson and Markeese Wise and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
