John Edward Brooks Sr., age 86 of Corryton, went to be with his wife and siblings on Monday, February 14, 2022.

John was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed being outdoors in Cades Cove, cheering on the Atlanta Braves, and making people laugh with his mischievous pranks. Family was everything to John. He was originally employed at Corryton Lumber Company, then with his brother George at Brooks Auto Parts, then Car Color Supply, and ended his work years at The Knoxville News Sentinel in circulation.

He was preceded in death by his precious wife of 58 years Margaret Brooks; granddaughter, Tagen Brooks; and parents, James and Juanita Brooks; brother, George Brooks; sisters, Louise Harrison and Wanda Nicely; half-brothers, Bill, Ray, and Wayne Martin; and half-sister, Rosetta Dalton.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Eddie (John Jr.) and Michelle Brooks; daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Bryan Mitchell; granddaughters, Ashlee Mitchell Cockram, Kayla Mitchell Brumley, and Autumn Brooks and Aaron Davin; Grandson-in-law, Frank Cockram; great-granddaughters, Leslie Cockram, Kinsley Quinn, Iris Cockram, Teddy Kay Brumley, and Ruby Cockram; great-grandson, Jayce Weaver; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a service to follow at 4:00 pm with Rev. Donnie Coffman officiating. The family will meet at Greenwood Cemetery on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 10:45 am for a 11:00 am graveside service.
