Born Feb. 16, 1932, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Howard O. and Anna Myrtle Delaney Overstreet. Paul was a member of the Gravel Switch United Methodist Church, where he served as song leader and enjoyed doing solos and special music. He was an artist, a retired employee of the Boyle County Fiscal Court, a former policeman with the Danville Police Department, a former draftsman for various industries, and a former employee of Corning Glass Works in Harrodsburg.
Paul was an active member of the NRA, a Civil War enthusiast enjoying 20 years as a civil war re-enactor, and an avid bow and gun hunter. He took pride in being a role model and mentor to many young men in the area. He took them camping and taught them the ways of frontier and outdoor living. He also taught them Civil War history and how to make and assemble rifles and muzzle-loaders.
Among Paul's many accomplishments, one he was particularly proud of was being awarded the Conservation Communicator of the Year award in 2005 by the Kentucky Wildlife Foundation.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Paula Whitaker of Lexington and Susanna (Jeff) Ryan of Forkland; one sister, Madalyn Sheperson of Gravel Switch; four grandchildren, Katey and Jason Paul Lynch, Heidi Lowry and Kimberly Douglas; and a great-grandson, Caleb Lowry.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Wilder Funeral Home, Perryville, by Ollie Mae Wicker, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Wayne Edwards, Jeff Ryan, Scott Lowry, Jimmy Overstreet, Tim Hawkins and David Douglas.
