Peggy accepted a direct commission in the U. S. Naval Reserve and served as Personnel Officer at Naval Station, Norfolk. During her husband's Navy career and subsequent working years Peggy and family lived in Idaho, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Florida, Rhode Island, Washington, Georgia and Virginia, settling permanently in Virginia Beach after retirement.
In supporting the varied interests of her three children Peggy served as a Cub Scout leader and as an official at swim meets in several states while all three children were competitive AAU swim team members. Peggy served on various PTAs and attended softball and baseball games as well as gymnastic meets.
Peggy was active in her community. She had a passion for all types of crafting and especially loved to knit, logging over 2,000 volunteer hours making baby layette outfits and blankets for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. She served in various positions for the Witchduck Civic League, the Witchduck Garden Club and the Suburban Womens Club, as well as the Cherokee Womens Club and the YWCA in Marietta GA. She supported various historical societies and volunteered as a docent giving guided tours of the Wishart House (since renamed the Lynnhaven House). She also enjoyed attending and hosting bridge club group meetings.
