Anna Marie Basco
March 23, 1939 - February 12, 2022

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Anna Marie Masson Basco will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pineville, with Father Robert Johnson officiating.

Burial will be at Saint John the Baptist Cemetery, in Cloutierville, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville.

The family requests that visitation be held on Friday, February 18, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Anna, 83, passed from this life, Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the Oaks Care Center, in Pineville.

Anna was born in Natchitoches, Louisiana and raised in Cloutierville, where she worked in the family's general merchandise store, Masson Brothers, with her beloved aunts, uncles and cousins; especially Clyde Masson, her closest cousin in age.

She is preceded in death by her father, Van deVan Masson, who she garnered her love of sweets from; and her mother, Antoinette "Toni" (Hernandez) Masson, where she got her grit. Even though she would say that she was more like Van, everyone knew she was more like "Toni".

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Darrell and his wife, Lynne, and her only granddaughter, Mallory. Mallory was the light of her life and her road traveling partner for half a banana split sundae and a sale price Arby's roast beef. She had two granddogs, Teddie and Paige. Even though she took credit that Teddie was hers and didn't like Paige, she took care of them when called upon. Also left to cherish her memory is Norbert Basco, her ex-husband; they remained close through the years. There are a host of others including many nieces and nephews and the Masson cousins.

Her decades long best friend, Elda Schoolcraft, who Anna always "kept in line" and helped raise Darrell, even though he didn't become the priest Elda hoped for, grieves with the family of Anna's passing.

Anna was involved in the Catholic Daughters at Sacred Heart Church supplying bereavement meals and working the Saint Nicolas Store. A huge part of her life was the Auxiliary at Huey P. Long Hospital and the good that was done through the "pink ladies"'. She worked closely with James Burch and others in the social work department to establish a program that gave funds to those that truly needed it to buy needed medications.

Through the years she was involved in the Democratic Women Committee working on several political campaigns. She was involved in PTA and other Pineville school district organizations.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Oaks Care Center for the compassionate care that they provided for the "Queen" over the past years. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Pallbearers are Joe Bishop, Sam Bishop, John Scroggs, John Marcase, and the Masson cousins.

The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY, 10001.
