Reverend Daniel Jeremiah Sullivan, 84 of West Hartford died peacefully, Friday, February 11, 2022, after a long illness. Born in Hartford, son of the late Timothy and Nellie (O'Sullivan) Sullivan he was raised in Hartford attending St. Peter's School and St. Thomas Seminary. Growing up Father Dan was an outstanding athlete playing both basketball and baseball and was named one of the top twenty athletes ever to come from Hartford. Offers of both basketball and baseball professional careers were not as strong as following his call to the priesthood where he graduated with his BA in Philosophy and Theology from St Mary's Seminary and University, Baltimore, MD. He was ordained by The Most Reverend Henry J. O'Brien May 24, 1963, and served parishes in Wethersfield, Newington, Guilford, Wolcott, West Haven, Orange, and Wallingford. He served St. Margaret Mary Parish in South Windsor from 1984- 2013 before his retirement. After retirement he enjoyed helping his friend, Rev. Dr. John McHugh at the Church of Saint Ann in Avon. Father Dan also had served as Chaplain for the CT Army National Guard during his period of service. He always carried his love for sports and served as the chaplain for the UCONN Football team during Coach Randy Edsell's tenure. Father Dan had a lifelong love of golf which he enjoyed with his brother, Father Jack Sullivan up until two years before his death. He was an active golfer in several Hartford area golf clubs and was always invited to complete a foursome because of his skills. Many of his golfing friends referred to him as "America's Guest". Father Dan also loved the weeks he and his brother spent at the "Big East Playoffs" in Madison Square Garden for many years. Besides his brother, Reverend John P. "Jack" Sullivan of West Hartford with whom he made his home; Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother Timothy B. Sullivan. Father Sullivan will lie in state and his family will receive friends at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon on Friday, February 18, 2022, from 9:30 am-10:45 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am with the Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair, Archbishop of Hartford as the principal celebrant. His brother, The Reverend John P. Sullivan, will concelebrate and be the homilist. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Memorial Donations for the support of senior priests may be made to the Benevolent Association for Priests of the Archdiocese of Hartford, 134 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT 06105.
