He was born October 4, 1945 in Cameo, WV, the son of the late Thurmond Nelson and Verna Walls.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Romey Nelson, Maxwell Nelson, Darrell Nelson, and Johnny Nelson, grandson, Jed Runser, his father-in-law, Arvil Stollings and mother-in-law, Nettie Browning.
Tommy loved the Lord. He was a minister and teacher. Tommy served in the U.S. Navy and then went into the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam, Cuban Missile Crisis and Desert Storm. Tommy loved berry picking, being outside and western shows.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patricia Sue Stollings-Nelson; four daughters, Stacey (Kevin) Hoard, Misty (Ron) Moyer, Judy (Chris) Runser and Heather Nelson; two sons, Richard (Victoria) Runser and David (Debbie) Runser; two sisters, Joyce Cole and Mary Bolen; two brothers, James "JD" (Phyllis) Nelson and Terry (Betty) Nelson; eleven grandchildren, Dustin Moulds, Autumn Dickey, Hannah Clayton, Cortney McCarley, MaKayla Martinez, Erin Moyer, Annaleigh Moyer, Noah Moyer, David Runser, Katrina Morrison and Jessica Barbour; twenty great grandchildren; Thank you to Jenna Ellis for great care; Pastor Mark and Tressie Meeker; the workers at Huntington Rehab; and hospice.
Services will be held at 12:00pm, Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Prayer Connection Lighthouse, Danville, WV with Mark Meeker officiating. Burial will follow at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 11:00am until 12:00pm at the church.
Pallbearers will be Ron Moyer, David Runser, Noah Moyer, Erin Moyer, Mark Nelson and Jamie Nelson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clifford Johnson.
