James (Jim) Hicks, age 87, of South Bend, passed away Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Jim was a Shipping Supervisor for the Westinghouse Corp. in Bloomington, IN for 34 years, retiring in 1991.

Jim was born August 22, 1934, in Decatur, IL to the late Clarence and Edna (Cameron) Hicks. Jim moved to Bloomington, IN in 1955 following his time in the Navy. Shortly following he met his wife and on October 4, 1957, in Bloomington, he married his love, Donna (Kerr) Hicks who survives. In 2005 Jim and his wife moved to South Bend, IN to be closer to their son and grandchildren. Also, surviving is a son, William Gregory Hicks of South Bend along with his domestic partner, Yogini Costello, four granddaughters, Margaret (Andrew) Van De Putte, Rose (Matthew) Unolt, Angela (Jimmy) Barnes, and Emily Hicks; seven great grandchildren, Jack, Alexander, Nathan, Isabelle, Dylan, Adalynn, Liam, and one sister, Barbara Clough of TN.

Jim was preceded in death by four sisters, June, Lucille, Virginia, Betty Lou and six brothers, Paul, Matt, Sam, Chet, William, and Charlie.

A memorial gathering for friends and family will take place on Saturday, February 19, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road
South Bend, IN 46635.

Jim was known for being an avid fisherman his entire life. One of Jim's favorite memories growing-up was fishing with his brothers. Jim would often frequent Monroe Lake in Bloomington, hoping to get a big catch. Following his move to South Bend he enjoyed trying his luck at Potato Creek from time to time. Jim was also known for his great sense of humor and quick wit by his family and friends, and he loved when he was able to make someone laugh.

Jim liked traveling with his wife, Donna and they went on many traveling tours following their retirement. Jim loved being with his family, he was a constant source of support and love for them. Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Jim also served his country honorably as a Navy Veteran. Online condolences may be sent through www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
