George Henry, Sr.
May 28, 1937 - January 27, 2022

George V Henry Sr. was born on May 28, 1937, to Rose and Hyland Henry, he departed this life on January, 27th 2022. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and cousin.

George is preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara H Henry, his sister Anna Pearson, brothers, Hyland Henry, Charles Henry, His twin brother Aubrey Henry and Robert Henry.

Dad lived in the downtown area of Wilmington for most of his life. He was educated in the Wilmington school districts. George grew up in the Poplar St. area in Wilmington where he met and married the love of his life his wife Barbara H Henry. They were happily married for 63 years. He had a great love for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren (over one hundred and fifty Spud-nicks or Big dummies he'd call them).

George would go to Delaware Park where he would participate in boxing matches and get paid this was also a trip he loved to take with his wife and son Doug. George worked as a long-distance truck driver and a mover for William Lamour company for several years before he entered the union at the Longshoreman's and worked for the rest of his time before retiring. He loved family he enjoyed the family summer trips with his entire family, he would load up whatever van he owned at the time and pile everyone in and get on the road. The funny part about the trips was when we made our stops and started to unload, we looked like the clown car, how in the world did he stuff all of us in there? I never knew lol. He especially loved the family fishing trips, but mostly the ones with his son's. He loved those throw-together family cookouts! He also enjoyed working on his cars. He loved to dance and sing the seven wonders of the world with his late twin brother Aubrey and later with his sons Vic and Tom.

To know him was to love him, he was the kind of man whoever was in need he was there giving so much of himself, our he cared for and loved his wife with all he was, his life was lived for her. When she transitioned over, we, his children were sure he wouldn't be far behind his heart was truly broken beyond repair, but he pressed on and smiled through the pain because he made his wife a promise, and that promise he did keep, so now they are dancing together again, it's bittersweet.

In all our father was such an amazing man, loved by everyone! His memory will live on in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His grandchildren have so many fond memories and stories that they obtained from him over the years1 such as the peas portage hot song, a bushel in a peck song, and the grandpop vampire are just a few.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT: I (Tammy) would like to take a moment to acknowledge my husband Andre Rider and my youngest brother Douglas Henry for the past six years of keeping our father in our home, at times it was a struggle and at times it was a pure pleasure caring for our father, I just know that the interactions between them were priceless from my husband coming home from work every day and going into his room kicking his shoes under his bed and turning over his fan then dad grabbing his cane and chasing him out, let me not forget about the dance battles where dad would do Andres moves, to Doug going in and playing his music for him as he sat there with his head nodding and feet tapping and watching wrestling on tv.

He leaves to cherish, 7 children, George V Henry Jr. (Maureen Henry), Thomas J Henry (Khelia Henry) Cheryl Henry (Isaiah Brown), Tamela Henry-Rider, (Andre Rider), Oliver Henry, Michael Henry (Annette Henry), and Douglas Henry. His last sibling (Sister) Hilda Henry; a sister-in-law, Damita Ford-Bungy; a host of nephews and nieces, (special nieces) Gwen Henry, Shannon Woolford, and Sharon (Mookie) Henry; Four sisters-in-love, Barbara B Henry (Tickle), Lila Henry (Aubrey), Jenny Henry (Sam); extended family, Karen Stewart, Demia Roberts, Andre Frazier, Richard Rivera, and Guido Rivas.
