Tony Eugene Hamby, beloved husband, father figure, brother, friend, leader, and confidante to all those he met and loved, passed away on February 8, 2022, with family by his Hospice bedside.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 2575 Parkway Dr., Winston-Salem, NC. Burial will be in the church columbarium. There will be a reception following the service in the EVW Hall. The family requests that masks be worn during the service and the reception.

Born to the late Rob Asa and Betty Norman Hamby on November 23, 1936, in Forsyth County, he graduated from Gray High School, Class of '57.

He was a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church during his developing years and came to love it even more when he was a teenager. He helped when the chapel was being built, working as a laborer.

Tony was drafted in 1959 into the US Army; after basic training he was a chaplain's assistant. He later joined the Army Reserves with the 312th EVAC Hosp, 108 SPT BN; he was concurrently an Army Technician with each of these units; he eventually retired as Command Sergeant Major.

Tony married Sandra Harris Hamby on August 15, 1965, at St. Timothy's. They were youth advisors for the Episcopal Diocese of NC in Raleigh. In 1969 they returned to Winston-Salem, both active with the youth at St. Paul's; eventually returning to St. Timothy's working with both youth and older parishioners, especially the OWLs. They continued to volunteer and travel as long as his health allowed.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Robert Gray Hamby, stepmother, Ruby Shinault Hamby, and sister-in-law, Evelyn Elaine H. Cable.

Cherishing his memory are his loving wife, Sandra Harris Hamby, of the home; brothers, Don Hamby (Betsy), Ron Hamby, Steve (Joan), Mike (Charlene); sister, Susie Hamby Owens (Mike); nieces and nephews; special friends, Charles Ingram (Bonnie), Corey and Christian Hodges; and other loving friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trellis KBR Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
