Mr. R. Nolan Williams Jr., a resident of Newton, Alabama, died Saturday morning, February 12, 2022, at the age of 80.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 15, 2022, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Ray Layton officiating.
Interment will follow in Bethel Community Cemetery in Newton, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Monday, February 14, 2022, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
Mr. Williams was born August 15, 1941, in Dale County, Alabama to the late Roy Nolan Williams Sr. and Annie Faust Williams. He grew up on the family farm in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1959. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Troy State University and later received a Master's Degree in Education from Livingston State. Mr. Williams taught school in Panama City, Florida, Surry, Virginia, and finished his teaching career at Dale County High School. He finished his career in education at Troy University in Dothan. He served as Principal at Newton Elementary School, on the State School Board for two years, and in the Alabama State Legislature for over twenty years. Mr. Williams served on the Dale County Hospital Board and SpectraCare Board. He was a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church in Newton and attended Grace Assembly of God Church at the time of death. He was a member of Newton Masonic Lodge 224. Mr. Williams loved his farm, dogs, cats, horses and cows. He loved his horse, Alvin.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, one sister, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a special friend and partner, Frank Baxter. A host of cousins also survive.
