Ruth Ellen (Davis) Monroe, 89, of Bridgeport, WV, passed away after suffering many years with Alzheimer's Disease on Tuesday, February 8th, 2022. She had been a resident of Sundale Nursing Home for the last several years
Ruth was born on December 21, 1932, the child of the late Olive Pearl (Davis) Krieger of Morgantown, WV. In early 1950, while working at the Varsity Shop, she met Bernard C. Monroe of Shinnston, WV. They were married in August 1950, setting up their household in Shinnston, WV.
Ruth is survived by one daughter, Rhonda Bond of Clarksburg, two sons, Jennings (J.C.) Monroe and his wife Brenda of Bridgeport and Clinton Monroe and his significant other Christine Musta of Bridgeport. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Amy Echard and her husband Roy of Bridgeport, Bernard Bond of Clarksburg, Chris Bond and his wife Suzanne of Martinsburg WV, Robert Nixon and his wife Shannon of Washington State, Terra Moyer of Utah, Katelynn Thomas and her husband Logan of Weston WV, Hunter Monroe, and Piercen Monroe of Clarksburg WV. including 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her husband Bernard, her mother Pearl (Krieger) of Morgantown, WV, her son-in-law Larry Bond of Clarksburg. Also, her only sibling Barbara and her husband James Thornburg of Westover, WV.
Ruth led a happy life starting from very humble beginnings in Morgantown. She spent a lot of her childhood with her grandparents Augusta and William Davis. After her marriage to Bernard, they established their roots in Shinnston, WV where she and her husband built their home and raised their children. Ruth was very much involved with girl scouts, dancing, and band boosters for both Shinnston High School and Lincoln High School and a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She and her husband owned and operated Monroe's Market / Restaurant in West Union for several years. After selling their business, she worked as a cook at the Plantation Restaurant, Jane Lew and then spent many years as a cook at Bob Evans's Restaurant in Bridgeport, until she retired in 2008.
Ruth was an accomplished Oriental dancer associated with the Shriner's. She along with three other local ladies preformed at various places for the Shrine, travelling as far as Miami, Fl. to perform at the Fontainebleau Hotel. She was an avid painter, winning many contests, such as 1st place in the Shinnston Bicentennial Art Show in 1976.
Ruth was a member of the Simpson Creek Baptist church where she attended many functions including Sunday and weekly service when she was able. She loved to read her Bible and she loved to listen to Elvis, gospel, and country music. She also was very talented in music as this was her entertainment with her family when she was young.
Ruth was a good soul and would help others if she could. She was greatly loved and will be truly missed by her family and many others.

Visitation will be held at Perine Funeral Home (1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston), from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, February the 14th. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February the 15th followed by the interment at the WV National Cemetery in Grafton. The services will be led by Doctor Michael C. Hopkins (retired) of Simpson Creek Baptist Church.
