Helen M. Mooney, 90, DuBois, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Penn Highlands DuBois. She will be sadly missed, but she is walking with Jesus and enjoying life in Heaven.
Born November 15, 1931, in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Walter L. and Iva Mae (Shaw) Shimmel.
On July 8, 1949, she married Francis W. Mooney in Philipsburg. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1999.
Helen was a homemaker in her home. In younger days, Helen enjoyed doing embroidery, reading, gardening, and wallpapering. She was the "best bread and pie baker in town". Helen always cared for many elderly people and loved her dogs and cats. She attended Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene.
Helen is survived by three children, Barbara (David) Brownell, Richard (Julia) Mooney and Jan Simbeck; fifteen grandchildren, Shirley, Francis, Tonya, Elisha, Richard, Thurston, Wesley, Jennifer, Jessica, Jamie, Jason, Steven, Robert, Anson, and Susan; her sister-in-law, Darlene Shimmel; her daughters-in-law, Kelly Mooney and Karen Mooney; her son-in-law, Ron Thomas, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and a great-great-grandchild. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her sons, William, Howard, and Mark; daughters, Shirley and Cheryl; brothers, Robert and Walter; sisters, Shirley and Janet, and a son-in-law, Jeff Simbeck.
Interment will be in Morningside Cemetery.
