Marvin Dewey Taylor, age 72, of Lake City, Florida passed away on February 10, 2022, at his home. Marvin was born on August 27, 1949, in Lake City, Florida, to the late Dewey and Lizzie Taylor. Marvin was a Florida Native and life-long resident of Columbia County. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1967 and was drafted in the United States Navy in November of 1968. Marvin served his country proudly in the Vietnam War. After nearly four years of service, Marvin was honorably discharged and returned home to start his longtime career. He worked for the Florida Department of Transportation in Columbia County in the Road Department as a road grader and heavy equipment operator until transferring to Suwannee County Road Department where he was later promoted as their Director of Landfill Operations. Marvin retired after serving over 26 years for the state and county. He met the love of his life, Linda Stewart, while employed in Columbia County, and they were happily married on January 30, 1982. Marvin and Linda have enjoyed the past 40 years as best friends and companions. He was a devout Christian and a longtime member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. Marvin enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles throughout the years and loved any antique fast sports cars. He was a simple country man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and most of all spending time with his family.
Marvin was preceded in death by his loving parents, Dewey Taylor, and Lizzie Walker Taylor; son, Alan Phillips; grandson, Cameron Taylor; and great grandson, Carson Phillips.
Marvin is survived by, his loving wife of forty years, Linda Stewart Taylor of Lake City, FL; his sons, Darrel (Virginia Ann) Phillips, Adam (Shannon) Taylor, Walter Scott Taylor all of Lake City, FL, Brian (Susan) Phillips of South Carolina, and Tony (Debra) Harden of Lake City, FL; daughter-in-law, Ramona Phillips of Lake City, FL; sister, Teresa (Jerry) Cobb of Ft. White, FL; grandchildren, Jamie Phillips, Holly (Caleb) Nowlin, Carter Phillips, Maeghan Taylor, Lexie Brown, Kaleb Feagle, Karsen Feagle, Branndon (Katie) Taylor, Libby (Brendan) Brownfield, Matthew (Monika) Taylor, Christie (Chris) Mullaney, Anthony Phillips, Christine Harden, Anthony Harden, Amber Harden, Chris (Rebekah) Phillips, Brad (Erica) Phillips, John Weston Powers, and Audrey Powers; numerous great grandchildren; niece, Miranda (Cody) Hysell; nephew, Walter (Stephenie) Sherrod; along with many extended family members and friends.
