Janet grew up in the Cleveland and Middleburg Heights areas along with her two brothers, Norman and Kenneth. After marrying Kenneth Cawthra, they started their family and raised their four children in Cleveland. Due to health issues and the burden they created, they eventually divorced. After 20 years she married William Crawford and they created their home and faith in the Warrensville area. They attended Our Lady of Peace where Bill was very active. She became a security guard, traveled a lot with Bill, and found much joy in life with him. When he passed away she moved back to the west side to be near family. She enjoyed making new friends there. This also allowed her to explore her faith and she became a member of St. Raphael's parish in Bay Village.
As Janet's needs advanced, she moved to a nursing care facility. She quickly endeared herself to the staff there, and the nurses loved hearing her phenomenal stories and treated her like a princess. Janet had so much love for her children and her faith that kept her strong during her health issues. She always mentioned that she loved all her children equally like a mother does and had no favorites (with a twinkle in her eye). She was always trying to care for family and friends, and even strangers since, as she said, "she was a natural care giver".
Janet is survived by her loving children Kenneth Jr. (Tammy) Cawthra, Laurie (Kenneth) Unger, Michelle (Martin Takacs) Boker, and Brian (Angel) Cawthra; cherished grandchildren, Rebecca, Cassandra, Shawn, Kevin, Nicklaus, Christopher, Zachary, Britany, Brian Jr., Christian, Micah, and Quintin; great-grandchildren Kiya, Aurora, Brian III, Annastatia, Alice, William, and Isabella; and her brothers Norm Kersten Jr. and Kenneth Kersten. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband William Crawford; and her former husband Kenneth Cawthra.
