John Rodney Howard, 73, of Oxford, passed away on December 3, 2021. He was born on November 24, 1948, in Jackson, Michigan to the late Sylvester and Treva Acker Howard.
John is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda; his daughters, Lorraine Yohey (Rex), and Melissa Garrett (James); 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Tim Howard, Dave Acker, Michael Acker, and Al Acker; his sister, Barb Boney; and many nieces and nephews
John Howard joined the Navy and was proud to have serviced his country through the Vietnam War. He left the Navy in 1972 to raise his daughters Hope and Melissa. Soon after, he gave his life to the Lord and was truly born again. He had an urgency to tell everyone about a man name Jesus. He loved to fish but most importantly was a fisher of men. He met his soulmate, Linda, in 1983. Their love story from the beginning was rooted and guided by the Lord. He took in as his own, 3 children, Lorraine, Timothy, and Bill. He was gifted in many areas, woodworking was his favorite. His grandchildren would often boost there wasn't anything he couldn't make or fix. He served his church in any compacity that he was needed. He was a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Leader, an Elder, and Pray Warrior. His love for people and his family never wavered as he began everyday with "Lord send me."
Memorial services will be Saturday December 11th, 2021 from 2pm-5pm at Living Stones Church of God in Oxford, NC.
