Lloyd Edison Johnson was born on December 10, 1932, on Long Fork in Pike County, Kentucky.

He was pre-deceased by his father, William Jennings Johnson, his mother, Anna Little Johnson, his brother, Charles Edward, his sister, Neva Lee, and his beloved wife, Janice. He was also pre-deceased by four brothers-in-law: Scott Hoskins, Donald Meade, Jim Burke, and Gary Yonts, and one sister-in-law, Patricia Meade.

Lloyd was devoted to his family, his wife, Janice, and only child, Sherry. He met Janice at a football game. Yes, they saw each other across a crowded field before they were introduced by a mutual friend. He walked over a mountain to visit her, and they were married when they were both nineteen, coming to Lexington by train the next day.

Lloyd had a high drive to succeed and truly loved to work. As a young man he delivered milk, drove a cab, and did many other jobs, but when he joined the Lexington City Police in 1958, he found his true calling. He served in law enforcement for 47 years—30 with the Lexington City Police Department where he earned the rank of Lieutenant and 17 with the Sheriff's Department where he earned the rank of Chief Deputy.

He especially enjoyed training younger officers at the Police Department and training the reserves at the Sheriff's Department, many of whom returned to tell him, that even though he was tough and intimidating, how much the training meant to them and their safety.

He had an amazing memory for people and details and often told stories from his past. He was a man of his word. If he told you he would do something, he did it.

One of the best days of his life was in 1996 when he was baptized by his dear friend, Elmer, in a creek in front of the Elizabeth Old Regular Baptist Church in Millstone, Kentucky. In the last few years he attended Calvary Baptist Church in Lexington sitting on Row 3 with his family where he made many new friends of all ages. He became a member of Calvary in 2021.

Above all, Lloyd was a devoted husband to Janice and father to Sherry. When Janice became ill in 2016, his one desire was to make every day a good one for her. When she passed away in 2018, they had been married sixty-six years.

Lloyd passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherry, two sisters-in-law, Alberta Yonts and Rosemary Hoskins, several cousins and nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

Services will occur on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church on High Street, Lexington: Visitation from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., followed immediately by the funeral at 3:00 p.m. Masks are advised and appreciated.
