Mr. Raymond R. Thompson, 95, died Monday, January 31, 2022, in the Clark Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Clark, New Jersey.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Wednesday, February 9th. from 4:00-8:00PM. On Thursday, February 10th. from 11:15-11:30AM, everyone will gather in the funeral home parking lot to form the traditional procession to the cemetery. The prayers of committal and the military honors detail will precede Mr. Thompson's burial, along with the cremated remains of his late wife, Shirley C. Fingerlin Thompson (2012), in the family plot in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey at 1:30PM in Shelter Z. The family has asked that you please omit flowers.

Mr. Thompson, the son of the late Ellen Garry Thompson and the late Arthur Thompson, was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He resided in Clark, New Jersey, where he and his wife raised their family, from 1954 to 2015 until he relocated to Iselin, New Jersey.

Mr. Thompson was a printer for Wilson Jones Company in Elizabeth for forty-five years and he started to enjoy his retirement in 1988. Concurrently, he also worked, in the same capacity for the Star Ledger Newspaper for twenty years.

Mr. Thompson was a U.S. Navy combat veteran of World War II. He saw active duty as a machine gunner in the rear turret of the plane known as the TBM Avenger over Okinawa, Japan. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Navy Air Medal for his twenty-nine completed missions.

Locally, Mr. Thompson was a member of the Clark American Legion Post #328 and the Clark VFW John L. Ruddy Post #7363. He was a past vice president and member of the Graphic Communications Union. Mr. Thompson loved the Jersey shore and all it had to offer - fishing, crabbing and especially the bungalow in Ocean Beach that he spent time at each year. In his earlier years, he was a pretty good bowler and could throw a mean game of darts.

Mr. Thompson was predeceased by the love of his life, Shirley C. Fingerlin Thompson, and his two brothers, Arthur Thompson, and William Thompson. He is survived by his four son, Raymond R. Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Linda, Kenneth K. Thompson and his wife, Deborah, Michael M. Thompson and his wife, Diane and Thomas J. Thompson and his wife, Sue; his brother, Thomas J. Thompson; his two sister, Annabelle Kablis and Mary Tango; his eleven grandchildren, Raymond, Timothy, Samantha, Shanna, Melissa, Kenneth Jr., Kimberly, Sarah, Maggie, Steph and Courtney and his five great grandchildren; Benjamin, Kirstin, Xavier, Giuliana and Joseph.

Mr. Thompson was the center of life for his family, and he had an abundance of love for everyone in his circle. He was a kind and compassionate man, a true gentleman. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. His legacy continues to shine through his family.
