Chief Petty Officer Mark T. Carter of Fallbrook, Calif., enlisted in the U.S. Navy October 6, 1998 and volunteered for SEAL training in 1999, and served at two West Coast-based SEAL teams after graduation from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training. In April of 2004, he was permanently assigned to an East Coast-based Navy SEAL team. Among his awards are two Bronze Stars with "V" for valor, and a Joint Service Commendation Medal with "V." He died as a result of enemy action while conducting combat operations in Iraq at age 27. He was permanently assigned as an East Coast-based Navy SEAL. He is survived by his parents, three brothers and four sisters
