HEALDTON -- Graveside rites for Joy McClanahan, 80, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mount Olive Cemetery with the Rev. Russell Cheatham and Frank Welcher officiating.
McClanahan died July 28, 1998, in the Ardmore hospital. He was born Dec. 15, 1917, at Wewoka, to Jesse and Fannie Copeland McClanahan.
He moved to Healdton as a infant, graduated from Healdton High School in 1936 and married Wanda Mary Morgan Sept. 7, 1936, at Ringling. He served 16 years in the Army during World War II and Korean conflict. He worked as a carpenter, in the oil fields and he and his wife owned and operated Joy's Grill 28 years before retiring Feb. 27, 1981. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Odd Fellows and First United Methodist Church. He was president of Healdton Alumni Association and was named Oil Man of the Year in 1989.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, Sonny, Eaton, Colo., Bill and Robert, Healdton, and Doug Polzien; three daughters, Steve McClanahan, Stillwater, Shorty McClanahan, West Port Lavaca, Texas, and J.R. McClanahan, Healdton; two brothers, William, Ardmore, and Jesse, Wilson; a sister, Wenona Pollard, Delhi, La.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Honorary bearers will be family members.
