Betty Francis Nethery Pearson

July 9, 1930 – January 27, 2022

Betty Francis Nethery Pearson of Carlin, Nevada, passed away peacefully at home on January 27, 2022, surrounded by family. Born to James L. Nethery and Leona H. Nethery on July 9, 1930. She graduated from Carlin High School in 1948 and immediately married her cowboy sweetheart Guy J. Pearson starting their family of six children in 1949. Betty was a lifetime member of the Carlin community, (other than a short stint in Hermiston, OR from 1952-56) having been born in Carlin and worked over sixty years in the grocery business first with Owens' Market and then moving over to Scott's Market. She also worked a short time for the Safeway Bakery in Elko. She retired from the grocery business in 2015. While working in the grocery stores, she also baked pies for fund raisers at the Carlin Methodist Church, community organizations, family, friends and for the Elko Clinic staff and Dr. Conley's Dental office. Recently, while sitting with Betty, longtime friend Donnetta Skinner remarked, "you would not believe how many pies Betty and I delivered to the Carlin and Elko communities"!

She was predeceased by her parents, husband Guy J. Pearson, sons Guy R. Pearson and James D. Pearson, sisters Leona Le Broke and Mary Trudell, and brother James Nethery.

Betty's favorite pastime was to square dance with her partner Guy and members of the Silver Wheeler Square Dance Club and Sage Brush Spinners! Betty and Guy travelled all over the western states dancing with family, friends and club members. Perhaps two of their favorite square dances were the summer fund raiser for the Jarbidge Community Hall and the spring time "Cabin Fever Reliever". Betty was honored to be named Grand Marshall of the 2021 Carlin 4th of July Parade.

In her later years, Betty gave up the pie making and spent her entertainment time playing cards and reading her favorite authors. She often remarked "I travelled all over the world reading books"!

Betty is survived by her children: Mary Anna Aydelotte of Reno, and Maureen (Clayton) Brook of Mesa, AZ and Carlin; Brett (Barbara) Pearson of Elko and Hugh Pearson of Carlin; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving Betty include special cousin Ruth Perry and sister in-law Barbara Nethery.

Betty was a lifetime member of the Carlin Methodist Church having served on most committees and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She would tell friends and family of her amazing time on "The Walk to Emmaus" and how this discipleship ministry helped deepen her personal faith.

Graveside service at the Carlin Cemetery will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 12 with the Rev. Judy Donaldson officiating with Bob and Kathi Colbert singing/leading some of her favorite hymns. Honorary Pallbearers are grandsons Chris Barber, John Allen, Elliott Brook, Eric Brook, Benjamin Pearson and Brian Pearson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carlin Methodist Church or the Carlin Open Door Senior Center. The family would like to thank Dr. Draper, Dr. Lindstrom and Dr. Hogle and their staffs for the care provided Betty the last few years of declining health. Betty's family would also like to thank Lisa Outlaw and Jessica Luukkonen for the 24 hour home care they provided during her final days.
