Richard Lee Morgan, age 87, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at his home. Richard was born May 10, 1934 in Garden Grove, Iowa, the son of Carl and Zella (Smith) Morgan. He graduated from Garden Grove High School and served in the United States Army for 2 years in Germany as a radio operator. He attended Northwest Missouri State College receiving his Bachelors Degree in Education. Richard was united in marriage to Margaret Rowland in April of 1960. Richard taught at Stanton Community Schools for one year and then started a long career with Nishna Valley School. He retired in 1995 after 34 years of service. Richard taught Biology, Physiology, and Ag classes. He was a longtime member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. Richard enjoyed gardening and taking care of his house and yard. He was an avid sports fan who never missed an athletic event at Nishna Valley and East Mills School. He loved his family very much and spent many hours with his grandchildren. He was always very involved in the community of Emerson and even served as Mayor for a term.

Preceding him in death were his parents and 14 siblings. Survivors include his wife: Margaret Morgan of Emerson, IA; children: Angela Morgan of Coralville, IA; David Morgan and wife Susan of Bellevue, NE; and Kurt Morgan and wife Stephanie of Ashland, MO; grandchildren: Monique Visocky and husband Brian of Omaha, NE; Dalton Morgan and wife Allison of Yakima, WA; and Ashley James of Ashland, MO; great grandchildren: Kayden, Mira, Calla, Remi, Kaysen, and Layne; sisters-in-law: Jeannie Siekman of Mound City, MO and Betty Morgan Beatty of Corydon, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, February 7, 2022, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the East Mills Boosters.
