A memorial service for Mary "Darlene" Jenkins, 62, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, Louisiana. A private graveside service will be held at Huffines Cemetery in Atlanta, Texas at a later date.

Darlene was born on June 24, 1959 in Kermit, Texas to Hershel and Pearl Whatley and passed away suddenly after a short battle with Grade 4 Glioblastoma brain cancer on Saturday, January 29, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Darlene graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1977. A few years later, she began a family and became a dedicated wife and mother. Darlene and her family spent time in southeast Texas moving between Houston and San Antonio before finally traveling to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1995. She decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse a few years later. Darlene dedicated the remainder of her life to being a caring, passionate, devoted LPN and worked for several long-term care and critical care facilities through the years.

Darlene and her current husband, Stewart, married in August 2018 and spent their time together fishing, boating, and camping. Her sense of humor, love of travel and preference for drinks with umbrellas somewhere sunny will be remembered fondly by her friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Stewart Jenkins; daughters, Aubrey Garcia and husband, Jesus and Sarah Strickland; son, Ryan Strickland and wife, Heather; grandchildren, Chloe Rayne, Jasmine, Layla and Vincent; and nieces and nephews, Michelle, Anthony, Tiffany, Brian and Brandon.
