Sarah Emeline Frieze Melcher was born in Overton County, Tennessee, & had at least 8 siblings. Her parents were from Greene County, Tennessee: John Wilkerson Freeze and Ann Bethior Mills Freeze. This Freeze family moved to Dade County, Missouri, in 1856. Sarah's father & future husband were in the same Missouri Union Cavalry regiments during the Civil War. Sarah & Casper married March 4, 1866, in Dade County. They had 9 children, most of whom were educators. Sarah lived another 3 decades after the death of Casper, & in the 1920 census was living with her daughter Cora in Idaho.
