Ron Tucker, known affectionately by anyone who knew him before 1967 as "Butch", died Wednesday, February 2nd at the age of 78.
Ron was born in Gladewater, Texas on January 23, 1944. His parents were Thurman and Ruby (Segars) Tucker. He had three sisters, two of whom survive him: Sherry Davis of Shawnee and Beverly (Clay) Clark of Wichita Falls, Texas. He was predeceased by sister Barbara (Jack) Dowdy of Edmond, Oklahoma. Ron's childhood was a happy, eventful one centered in the tiny town of Gordon, Texas where both sets of his grandparents lived. His father was a professional baseball player, so the family travelled to Chicago and Cleveland where Thurman played center field for the Indians when they won the World Series in 1948.
The family eventually moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where Butch and Diane met in the summer of 1962. Butch (age 17) always claimed he first saw Diane (age 15) at a baseball game where he was playing shortstop that he was convinced she came to "check him out." He thought she was pretty cute. That beginning led to four years of boyfriend and girlfriend. Two years of school at Eastern New Mexico University where Butch was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity led eventually to the young sweethearts becoming husband and wife January 29, 1966. A move to Oklahoma after marriage finished his BA in Business at OU before the Army called him up, at which time his name was reluctantly changed to Ron....The year 1969 sent him to Vietnam, and upon returning he finished a Master of Accountancy degree at OU, received his CPA designation, and worked for Arthur Andersen & Co. in Oklahoma City and then in oil and gas enterprises for Floyd Bergen in Norman. The young family lived in Norman and happily welcomed son Jeffery in 1975.
A wild life ensued with moves to California, Connecticut and finally back to their beloved Norman in 1995 where the couple grew a manufacturing business, StoneHouse Marketing Services, for the next twenty-seven years....The seven-member family had many happy times together and adventures to the Caribbean and traditional, annual swim parties and cookouts at their beloved home they called Casa Lia in east Norman.
Ron was a friend to all, an easy going, kind man who had the rare gift of letting people be the best they could be and the freedom to make decisions on their own. His sense of humor was wonderful, and he and Diane never, ever were at a loss for words, especially to show how much they loved each other and their children. He will be greatly missed by many who understand their successes were a direct result of his influence.
