Johnny was born on December 4, 1944 in Watauga County to the late Vonnie and Essie Hendrix Greene. He was a member of Smarts Grove Baptist Church, and he loved the Lord with all his heart, as well as his family and many friends. He was retired from Synthetics Finishing of Hickory. Johnny was involved in the Hildebran Jaycee's over the years, coaching football among other sports, and enjoyed talking on the CB Radio for many years with his friends, and was known as "Shoestomper".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Cecil, Wallace and Dale Greene, and two sisters; Millie Wilson and Verlee Mikeal.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 33 years, Essie Dalton of the home, four children; Gina Rees and husband Ed of Gaffney, SC, Peggy Bradshaw and husband Andy of Connelly Springs, Michael Reep and wife Elizabeth of Hildebran, and Hope Reep and husband Dale of Myrtle Beach, three brothers; Harold Greene and wife Glenda of Hickory, Earl Greene and wife Suzan of Long Beach, CA, and Carl Greene of Connelly Springs, four sisters; Irene Hames of Hickory, Lucille Spann of Icard, Marie Smith and husband Vertus of Connelly Springs, and Mary Cantrell and husband Harold of Rutherford College, one brother in-law, Wayne Wilson, two sister in-law's Jennie "Mitzi" Greene and Sherry Greene. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Brandy Burleson, Shaye Dase (Bryan), Misty Garland (Ritchie), Amy Smith, Gracie Reep, Kari Barnes, and Dustin Greene, nine great-grandchildren, Diamond, Noah, Ava, Jaylan, Cody, Jayden, Layla, Hunter and Reagan; one great great-grandchild, Banks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Harold Cantrell officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
