David Gerald Payne, 64, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. David was a member of the Charlestown High School Class of 1975 and worked for over 30 years as a mechanical engineer and draftsman for Gentec/Stansteel Hot Mix Parts in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a proud lifetime member of the NRA and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, and just being among God's creation. David was a genuine soul, who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He enjoyed talking with people and hearing their stories, as well as telling a few of his own. David was a skilled draftsman, carpenter, and craftsman who could design, create, and build anything. He enjoyed making anything from furniture and household items to toys for his grandchildren, who were the light of his world and the "feathers in his cap."

He was born on May 30, 1957, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Gerald Leon and Marcella "Louise" (Crawford) Payne. Along with his parents, David is preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Orville and Ruthie B. (Warner) Webster; sister-in-law, Patricia "Patsy" McCarley; brother-in-law, Harry Riley; and several aunts and uncles who he dearly loved.

David is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Kathy (Webster) Payne; sons, Matthew (Rachel) and Casey Payne; grandchildren, Benjamin and Ruthann Payne; sister, Marquita (Bruce) Kelsey; aunt, Joyce Payne; sisters-in-law, Betty Riley and Jane Gould; brother-in-law, Bobby (Diana) Webster; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Newcomer Funeral Home-Southern Indiana Chapel (3309 Ballard Lane) in New Albany and will continue on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. His Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens-East in Louisville, Kentucky.

The family requests that contributions in David's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the National Rifle Association.
