Craig Price Cook, 82, passed away in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, with family members present.

Craig was the eldest son of Owen and Cleobell Cook and was born in Spencer on June 21, 1939. Craig graduated from Spencer High School in 1957.

After high school, Craig attend Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and graduated in 1961, with a B.A. degree in business administration.

Craig married Janine Wilmot, of Terril, on Oct. 31, 1959. They began their life in the Spencer area. In 1961 Craig joined the Navy and served from 1961-66 on the USS Gilmore. The USS Gilmore was a submarine tender, and provisioned the submarines that JFK used for the blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

After military service, Craig and Janine moved back to Spencer, where Craig worked for Spencer Foods and was active in the YMCA Men's Club, First English Lutheran Church and attending his children's sporting events. Craig also served on the Spencer Park Board where he was the head of the committee that started and built the Spencer Municipal Golf Course.

Craig's job moved the family around the country where he made homes in Stillwater, Minnesota; Logan, Utah; Wichita, Kansas; and Green Bay, Wisconsin. Craig was an avid Green Bay Packers fan; he liked to play golf and fish. Many of Craig's fondest memories were from summers spent at their summer residence on West Lake Okoboji. After the passing of his beloved wife Janine, Craig moved in with his children in Houston.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the friends, family and neighbors, and especially to those in the Triboji Beach community.

Craig is preceded in death by his parents Owen and Cleobell Cook, his wife Janine Wilmot Cook and brother Richard Cook.

Craig is survived by his two sisters: Judy Hines, of Brandon, South Dakota and Patricia Classen of Omaha, Nebraska; three children: son, Randall (Kim) of Grand Prairie, Texas, daughter, Kim and son Jeff of Houston, Texas; and two grandchildren: Nicholas and Emily.

Memorial services are being planned for the summer of 2022 and will be held in the Spencer area where Craig will be buried in the Cook family plot in Riverside Cemetery.
