Dorothy "Dot" Waddell Leonard, age 87, of Greeneville passed away Monday at her home after a brief illness.
Mrs. Leonard was a member of a Greene County pioneer family that settled in the Camp Creek Community. She was a daughter of the late Mark S. and Cleo Cox Waddell.
She was a 1951 graduate of Camp Creek High School and a 1955 graduate of East Tennessee State University.
Mrs. Leonard taught school in the Greeneville City Schools for 36 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas S. Leonard in 1992.
Mrs. Leonard was active in many local organizations including Alpha Delta Kappa, Andrew Johnson Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Zion Family and Community Education Club, Greeneville-Greene County Retired Teachers, Greene County Democratic Women's Club, board member of Christian Co-Op pre-school, the "birthday club", and Christ United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Susan and David Jeffers, Tom and Laura Leonard, Tim and April Leonard. Affectionately known as "Bebaw" to her grandchildren, Nic Luttrell, Nicole and Harlan Jones, Stephani Jeffers, Lindsey and Stephen Duerr, and Violet Leonard, one great-granddaughter, Madison Duerr, 2 sisters- in laws, Bobbie Waddell and Charlotte Watts, lovingly known as "Dottie" to her nieces and nephews, Sarah Adams, Lisa Bennett, Judy Fahler, Marilyn Penland, Paul Madron, Mark Waddell, Steve Waddell, Leonard Watts, Terry Watts, her cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by one brother, HK Waddell, 2 sisters, Helen Madron (Andrew), Georgia Ann Jones (Al)
The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel with her great-nephew, Josh Golden officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Nic Luttrell, Harlan Jones, Stephen Duerr, Richard Adams, Ethan Adams, Thomas Adams, Paul Madron, Andrew Madron
Honorary pallbearers will be Grant Crum, Pat Crum, Danny Venerable, Jody Walker, Mark Waddell, Steve Waddell, Bob Bennett, Pat Fahler, Doug Penland, Joey Appleby, Matt Madron, Paul Penland, John Penland, Ben Waddell, and Howard Shaw.
