Robert Lynn Craig
April 29, 1941 ~ January 26, 2022 (age 80)

Robert Lynn Craig, known to friends and family as Bob, was born in Elk City, Oklahoma on April 29, 1941 to Melvin & Clara Craig. The whole family, including Bob's older sister Ann, moved to Madera, CA and settled in the Berenda area in 1948, where Melvin's brother O.E. Craig had lived for a few years. The family attended a small Southern Baptist Church in Berenda where Robert's mother, Clara taught Sunday school and where he established his faith in Christ and was baptized. Bob attended primary school in Berenda and graduated from Madera High School in 1959.

Bob had a knack for mechanics and loved cars and trucks so he decided to further his education at Fresno State where he got his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Not long after finishing his degree Bob was drafted into the Marine Corps and served 3 tours in Vietnam, Third Recon, as a Corporal from 1965-1967. Upon returning to the states Bob found the perfect link between his love for fast cars/trucks and his degree working in the NASCAR pit crew for Ray Elder and the "Racing Farmer" from Caruthers.

Several years later a young lady named Gwendolyn caught his eye and before they were married Bob began working with his father as a truck driver and eventually took over for his father and ran Craig Trucking for 45 years. Bob and Gwen had one son, Justin who Bob taught to love fast cars. They spent most of Justin's teen years fixing up a 1967 Mustang that became Justin's first car. Over the years they fixed up several cars together as Bob taught Justin his appreciation for mechanics and the art that comes from restoring a classic.

Bob was known for his generosity, patience & loyalty. He was a devoted friend, father and husband and those who knew him well knew that his ornery side was just his way of getting a friend to laugh. He was a man of few words, but he made each one of them count.

Bob passed away on January 26, 2022 and was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ann, and his wife of 37 years, Gwendolyn Craig.

He is survived by his son Justin, daughter-in-law Keirsten & grand-daughters Lorelai & McKenzie.

Services will be held at Jay Chapel on February 10th at 10am. Graveside Services are at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella at 1:30pm sharp.
