Mr. Mangum was born on April 12, 1920, in Union County, a son of the late Frank Ward Mangum and Ethel Ora Aycoth Mangum. He was retired owner of Mangum's Used Cars and Parts. He was also a United States Army Veteran. Served at Fort Gordon, McDuffie, assisgned Company C 117th Infantry, assisted in New Guinea, Luzon,Southern Phillippines Campaigns, Medals awarded; Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sadie L. Mangum, who passed on August 31, 2005; two brothers, Moses Mangum and Franklin Ward Mangum, Jr; four sisters, Kathleen Walden, Betty Nixon and Josephine Burgess.
Survivors include two sons; Johnny F. Mangum and wife, Patsy of Monroe, Ray G. Mangum and special friend, Margaret Secrest of Monroe; three grandchildren, Michael Ray Mangum, Meredith Mangum Player and husband, Chris, Shawn Franklin Mangum, all of Monroe; two great grandchildren, Kaleb Mangum and Hannah Mangum; two brothers, James "Bill" Walter Mangum of Monroe, Tommy Mangum of Wingate; four sisters, peg M. Davis, Bessie M. Gay, Mary Frances McManus, all of Monroe and Louise Akins of Charlotte.
