Donald Franklin Turner of Weirton, WV passed away on January 28, 2022, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was 85.
Donald was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 5, 1936, the first of two children born to Reid and Christine Turner.
After graduating high school, Donald was accepted into the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
Following graduation, Don accepted a job at Weirton Steel and for the next 31 years he worked at the tin mill and the general offices. After his retirement from Weirton Steel, Don taught a class in Industrial Hydraulics for two years at Jeff Tech. In addition, Don also served for twenty years on the Board of Directors of the Orange Lake Resort in Orlando, Florida.
While working at the mill he met Rose Marie Andrews and they were married on July 11, 1975. They were a match made in Heaven and were very fortunate to spend the next 46 years together.
Don and Rose Marie loved to travel. They visited 42 different states and traveled to Europe nine times. They cherished the time they spent on their "Back to Their Roots Tour". On this trip, Don and Rose Marie visited Croatia and Austria, where they saw the Oldest Ferris Wheel in the world. Their mid-night cruise on the Danube River in Budapest Hungary will always be a special memory.
Don nourished his faith at the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club
Most of all Don will be remembered for his lovable, kind, and generous nature.
He will be remembered with love by his wife Rose Marie Turner; his sister, Linda Owens (Thomas); his friends he made along his travels; and his great neighbors.
Visitation will be Sunday 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00
Entombment will follow at Saint Paul Cemetery Mausoleum.
