Civil War Confederate Soldier. Thirty-six year old Ambrose Blanton volunteered into Confederate service on September 2, 1861. He was mustered in as a Private into the "Thicketty Rifles" - Company F, 15th South Carolina Infantry. He entered his last battle on September 17, 1862 at Sharpsburg (Antietam) where he was felled with a mortal wound. Blanton was subsequently captured and died from battle wounds while a patient of the United States Hospital No. 1 at Fredericksburg, Maryland.
