Prince of Sweden until 1660. Duke of Stegeborg. Wittelsbach Dynasty. Also known eventually as Adolph John the Elder (Sr.). Son of Princess Catherine and Duke John Cazimir. Brother of King Carl X Gustav. Adolph John was born at Stegeborg Castle (now ruins in Söderköping Municipality) in 1629. He was Duke of Stegeborg after his elder brother Carl Gustav became the King of Sweden. At that time, he also obtained the County Palatine of Kleeburg. He was also “Generalissimus” and for a period Marshal of the Realm (Riksmarskalk) of Sweden.
