Craig Max Olsen, 65, passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2022.
He was born Nov. 12, 1956, at Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa to Max E. Olsen, M.D. and Carolyn Elaine (Saar) Olsen. Craig grew up in Minden, Iowa, and attended Minden Public School and graduated in 1974 from Tri-Center High School. He completed one year at Iowa State University.
Craig enjoyed playing sports, including basketball and golf, and belonged to bowling and softball leagues for many years. When he could no longer participate, Craig enjoyed watching any and all sporting events—especially Nebraska Huskers games.
Craig grew up in a 4-H family. He joined the Nednim Hustlers at age 10 and enjoyed showing cattle at county and state fairs (particularly the Iowa State Fair) and attending regional cattle shows.
After Iowa State, Craig moved back to Minden and worked several different jobs before farming his grandfather's farm with his mother. He last worked at the Neola Gazette as a sports reporter, ad designer, and photographer.
Craig treasured his family and friends. He enjoyed class reunions and used Facebook to connect to his friends. The joys of his life were his children, Keith and Dawn, and his grandson, Max.
Craig is survived by son Keith (Alicia) Olsen and grandson Max of Creston, Iowa; daughter Dawn Olsen (Eric Anderson) of Indianapolis, Ind.; sister Teresa Olsen, M.D. of Springfield, Mo.; and brother Van Olsen of Minden, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents, Max E. Olsen, M.D. and Carolyn Elaine Olsen; and sister Maureen Olsen.
A celebration of Craig's life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at Minden United Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with lunch and fellowship following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of choice or will be directed by family.
